Kate Burt is reshaping how the legal profession understands compliance, governance, and risk, moving it from a defensive obligation to a powerful driver of performance, trust, and sustainable growth. A qualified solicitor since 2007, Kate has spent her career working at the intersection of regulation, leadership, and commercial strategy, helping law firms navigate complexity with confidence and clarity.
In 2021, she founded HiveRisk with a clear purpose: to modernize legal compliance and make it practical, commercially intelligent, and future-focused. Under her leadership, HiveRisk has quickly become one of the UK’s most trusted legal compliance and risk consultancies, supporting law firms and legal tech businesses with governance frameworks that strengthen decision-making rather than slow it down. Working alongside Managing Director Justine Westwell and a high-performing team, Kate has built a firm known for integrity, pragmatism, and deep sector expertise.
Kate’s influence extends well beyond client work. She is a co-founder of several initiatives that are shaping the future of the legal profession, including The Great Big Legal Offsite (GBLO), The Lawyers’ Retreat, and Compliance for Law Firms (now Compliance Collective). Through these platforms, she actively encourages collaboration, leadership development, and open conversations about culture, ethics, and risk in law.
At the heart of Kate’s leadership philosophy is a simple but powerful belief: compliance should enable, not restrict. By aligning strong governance with ethical leadership and commercial awareness, she continues to help law firms build resilient, high-performing businesses, while raising the standard of professionalism across the legal industry.
